Montreal, February 21, 2014 – Today Fondation Émergence is unveiling the visual component of its 2014 campaign to fight homophobia. Through this campaign, the organization will demystify same-sex parenting in order to reduce prejudice towards children growing up in families with same-sex parents. The official launch of the campaign will take place at 5 p.m. tonight at Pride House (Maison de la Fierté), located at 1641 Amherst Street in Montreal.

The unveiling of the visual component signals the start of the 2014 campaign for the International Day Against Homophobia, which will culminate on May 17th. With I love my two moms/I love my two dads as its theme, the visual component of the campaign features children who are smiling and proud of their family. These children are like any others, except for the way that society sometimes views homosexuality, and by association, their family.

“To foster open-mindedness, it’s essential that certain myths be deconstructed”, explains Ms. Martine Roy, president of Fondation Émergence. “We have chosen to discuss certain myths, specifically, those related to parenting skills, the development of the child and parental models”, stated Ms. Roy. In its brochure and on its website, the organization also suggests five actions to take to eliminate prejudice towards same-sex-parented families.

Supporting the campaign
Fondation Émergence is counting on the public’s participation to make the 2014 edition of the International Day Against Homophobia a success. The organization strongly encourages everyone to circulate the communications tools on the Internet, in the workplace and in schools. These tools include two posters, a brochure and a mini-poster, each offered in French and English, and in both print and digital formats. The digital form of the poster will be available in 20 languages.

An activity guide available on the website offers a range of ideas to encourage organizations, companies and individuals to take part in the fight against homophobia.
